During this morning’s run, I listened to one of my all-time favorite praise songs – “How He Loves”. There are a few versions out there, but I’m most partial to Kim Walker’s version. I love her voice, and she is just so dang adorable. But I digress.

I got to the verse “and Heaven meets earth like a sloppy, wet kiss” and I was reminded of the times in our church when they sing that verse differently. They sing “unforeseen kiss”. Now, that may be the original lyric. I’m just too lazy to research it right now. I always just assumed some folks were offended by singing about a wet kiss in a Jesus song.

My point is – I absolutely love the thought of Heaven meeting earth like a sloppy, wet kiss. It makes me think of dogs – I love them so. Almost nothing can fill my heart more than being the recipient of an “I’m-so-happy-to-see-you-I-love-you-so-much-you’re-the-bees’-knees!” dog kiss.

Dogs are relentlessly enthusiastic about letting us know how much they love us. It’s like Jesus. He unceasingly pursues us. He has this “I’m-so-happy-to-see-you-I-love-you-so-much-you’re-the-bees’-knees!” love for us.

That’s why I like that song so much. It reminds me of that truth, and makes my heart beat just a little faster every time I hear it.

P.S. If you aren’t a dog person and the thought of dog kisses repulses you – by all means, ignore this post. If you don’t love dogs, you’re a lost soul anyway (I kid!). Just keep on singing “unforeseen kiss” and go about your business.

Have a blessed day!
